27th March was no ordinary school day at Skool4Kidz @ Tampines GreenLeaf. That Monday, Skool4Kidz Preschoolers had a special mission: to spread the word on saving precious water as part of the National World Water Day Campaign.
Guest-of-honour Dr Koh Poh Koon, Senior Minister of State (SMS) of the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, visited to support them and join in the activities.
Proud to be a Water Saver!
Our children took part in water rationing and recycling activities indoors and outdoors. They transferred water from taps to buckets and used scoops to wash their hands. The used water was collected for the outdoors recycling exercise at the adjoining Pavilion where they washed their scooters and watered the plants.
The little ones learned about water filtration, experimenting with guidance from the educators. They also participated in a coding game using a robot mouse to carry out simple directions while answering water-related questions.
To prepare for this national water-saving campaign, the children produced posters on water conservation with the aid of their teachers for display so that the public could learn more about the campaign. They also made posters and bookmarks for distribution.
The children wrapped up the programme with a “Water Parade” to the neighbourhood retail and coffee shops.
Several newspapers and Chinese and English TV broadcast stations picked up on the children’s activities. On the TV news segment, SMS Dr Koh said that it was refreshing to see young children bringing the message to the public. He added that he hoped that this would inspire more adults to protect and preserve our precious water supply.
Special thanks to SMS Dr Koh and PUB Singapore!
