Skool4Kidz Preschoolers Celebrate Hour of Code 2024 with Interactive Learning

Skool4Kidz once again participated in the global Hour of Code (HOC) movement, held from 9 to 15 December 2024, introducing children to the fascinating world of programming. We have been part of HOC movement since 2017. This year’s activities centred around Skool4Kidz’s goals of fostering creativity, collaboration and tech-savvy skills among our Nursery 2 to Kindergarten 2 young learners.

From planning routes on grid maps to programming bots to solve puzzles, every activity encouraged children to apply logical thinking and teamwork to accomplish tasks.

The highlights included:

1. Planning Pathways: Children mapped out routes to collect puzzle pieces of the Skool4Kidz logo. This hands-on activity helped them understand spatial relationships and directions while reinforcing social skills through teamwork.
2. Colourful Challenges: Using Matatalab and BeeBot robots, children discovered the vibrant symbolism of the Skool4Kidz logo. Working in small groups, they learned to program bots with directional commands, reflecting on the importance of persistence and problem-solving.
3. Expressing Creativity: Older preschoolers used motion and number blocks to program bots towards drawings of their favourite Skool4Kidz activities. This collaborative task celebrated individuality while teaching children to test, debug and refine their code.
4. Integrating Mother Tongue Learning: Skool4Kidz seamlessly incorporated Mother Tongue Language (MTL) activities into the coding experience. Through engaging multilingual interactions, children explored programming concepts while enhancing their proficiency in their native languages. This holistic approach reinforced cognitive learning.

The Hour of Code 2024 exemplified Skool4Kidz’s commitment to nurturing tech-savvy learners. By combining technology with creativity and teamwork, children not only honed their coding skills but also developed essential social and cognitive abilities.
