Crestar Education Group held its 2nd Early Childhood Centralised Training Day on 20 July, 2018 at Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. Close to 700 centre leaders, educators and supporting staff from four of its Early Childhood brands, Kinderland, ELFA, NurtureStars and Skool4Kidz, came together to share their knowledge, upgrade their skills and bond through the activities.
In line with Ministry of Social and Family Development’s new initiative in 2018, Early Childhood Industry Transformation Map to steer the sector towards more innovation and productivity, the theme for this year is “Smart Learning for 21st Century”. KLC International Institute, Crestar’s adult learning division, designed a 2-day training programme for centre leaders and teachers.
Ms Catherine Liew, Skool4Kidz Head of Quality and Sparks shared, “We need to be lifelong learners to acquire knowledge and skills continually to meet the demands in this rapidly changing society. This aligns with our Skool4Kidz core value to improve ourselves in order to transform the lives of children and family by bringing success through quality care and education.”
Skool4Kidz’s centre leaders had a fruitful session on “Emotional Competence to Manage Self and Team at the Workplace”, where they learned about Emotional Intelligence (EI) model. It equips them to facilitate an understanding and management of oneself and others in a team, cultivating a positive emotional culture at workplace.
Different enriching workshops were conducted for the English Teachers. “TASK IN A BOX – Creating Resources for Learning Corners” is a workshop which consists of hands-on activities designed to help children of all ages develop and flourish. These activities can be implemented in any type of early childhood settings, be it in a learning corner or as a stand-alone activity.
Teachers attending “Empowering Preschool Educators with Effective Communication Skills” picked up a set of effective communication skills, including written communication, verbal and non-verbal communication. “Managing Children’s Behaviour Through Positive Guidance” focuses on positive guidance and discipline to promote children’s self-control. Teachers are guided to teach our children responsibility and consequences while making thoughtful choices.
The Mandarin teachers have two very engaging workshops – “How to Use Resources Effectively for Chinese Language Education” and “Choosing the RIGHT Chinese Books and Toys for Preschoolers”. The takeaways from both workshops include effective use of environment and resources for best learning outcome and creative learning with age-appropriate toys and books.
We did not miss out our cooks and cleaners. They attended “Nutrition Workshop for Cools and Cleaners in Preschools” where they learned advanced nutritious recipe, kitchen organisation and food hygiene and safety to benefit the children in their care.
