Skool4Kidz Campus @ Sengkang Riverside Park has won the Merit Award for Preschools in the NParks Community in Nature (CIN) Schools Award 2020.
The Schools Award is a new category designed to acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate the works of our schools, as well as to motivate educators and students to contribute to local biodiversity conservation efforts.
Nature Curriculum at Campus @ Sengkang Riverside Park
Skool4Kidz’s children visited the River Safari so that children could learn firsthand about the differences between a manatee and a dugong as part of the focus on nature curriculum. The Campus also set aside time for discussions before, during and after every programme. This allowed the teachers to better understand the children’s learning needs and to evaluate each lesson’s outcomes.
NParks also highlighted one of the Campus’ Green Wave tree planting activities where the children learned about the Bamboo Orchid, a species native to Singapore. To enrich this learning experience, teachers conducted a lesson on the varieties of orchids and their life cycles. After that, the children had the opportunity to water and care for some plants according to a schedule drawn up for them.
Recognition of Biodiversity Conservation Efforts
Skool4Kidz Campus @ Sengkang Riverside Park was among 44 preschools, primary schools, special education, secondary schools and junior colleges that submitted their bio-diversity conservation learning programmes for the Award.
The Community in Nature (CIN) initiative was launched in September 2011 to connect and engage communities in conserving Singapore’s natural heritage. Find out more about the project here: https://www.nparks.gov.sg/biodiversity/community-in-nature-initiative/cin-schools-award.
