Skool4Kidz is expanding to more preschool centres and will continue to need more educators. In the face of shortage of educators in the Early Childhood (EC) sector, we have been stepping up our recruitment efforts. These include attracting mid-careers switchers in support of Workforce Singapore (WSG) Careers Conversion Programme (CPC). In fact, we are active supporters of WSG’s CPC since 2016.

It is an honour to be recognised by WSG and selected as a role model for other employers in Singapore. Skool4Kidz Preschool actively phases in mid-career switchers to the Early Childhood industry. In a recent LianHe Zaobao (LHZB) report, we are highlighted for the unrelenting support of the various governmental employment initiatives to nurture mid-career professionals into the preschool sector.

Skool4Kidz Preschool’s Director of Communications and Capability Development, Ms Teri Teo, shares the drive to phase in more mid-career switchers to the industry in an interview with LianHe ZaoBao.

WSG highlights our CPC efforts and the successful partnership with KLC International Institute (KLCII) to nurture new entrants to the infant care and childcare arena. KLCII provides relevant Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) certificate and diploma training courses for those interested in becoming preschool educators.

We have on average filled more than 30 vacancies each year through the CPC programme since 2016. The recruits were mainly between 25 and 30 years old, with the oldest in their 50s, from various industries. Besides receiving a salary during the training period, the recruits are assured of an employment upon course completion.

“From the height of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic to now, our preschool centres have been open to preschoolers of frontline staff and the general public,” quotes Ms Teri Teo, Director of Communications and Capability Development. “We are in the process of opening more preschools and are continually looking to implement transition programmes to help mid-career switchers to enter the preschool industry through CPC,” she adds.

We need more Infant Educarers and Preschool Educators for our new centres that are in the pipeline. It is our mission to give more young children a successful early start in life with affordable and quality care and education. This year, one of Skool4Kidz Preschool’s expansion includes a large preschool campus for infant and child care with a capacity for 500. Located at One Punggol, the preschool will be part of an integrated community hub to serve Punggol residents.

Besides the CPC, Skool4Kidz also partner KLCII to give career talks in schools to attract school leavers to join the EC sector by offering funding for entry-level bridging courses. We have also collaborated with Employment and Employability Institute, e2i, at open house events and career talks to promote the CPC programme to potential mid-career switchers.
